    US actions on climate change and energy

    This paper summarises US actions in the field of climate and energy taking into account the rapid development of policy since the mid term election, in November 2006. It draws conclusions regarding efforts in relation to cap and trade, biofuels, renewable energy, voluntary initiatives, energy efficiency and nuclear energy. The structure of the report mimics that of the EU background paper allowing easy comparison of efforts in both regions.

    Biofuels for Transport ? European and US Approaches

    This paper summarises the nature of the EU and US market for biofuels and current policy approaches on both sides of the Atlantic to promoting the development of biofuels. The paper also examines some of the key challenges and issues of concern for civil society, including how to ensure sustainability; interactions between bioenergy, food and land-use change; and adopting second generation biofuels.

    This paper examines the role of coal in the EU and US energy supply; technical options available and current obstacles to deployment; and the policy approaches and incentives provided in Europe and the US. The paper also examines some of the concerns surrounding the technology, including the risk of physical leakage, impacts on the energy system and competition for renewable energy funding.

    This paper summarises the current state of US policy on cap and trade at the federal, regional, and state levels and examines some of the voluntary and bottom-up approaches being developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It describes the underlying political dynamics in the US and compares US cap and trade policies with experiences from the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
