Transatlantic Debate on MPAs - 22 January

IEEP and our partner the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) are organising a debate on EU and US approaches to marine protected areas.

On Tuesday 22 January, IEEP will be holding a teleconference between EU and US representatives of civil society to exchange experiences on marine protected areas (MPAs). This is part of our ongoing work with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to develop a Transatlantic Platform for Action on the Global Environment (T-PAGE).

During the teleconference, participants will discuss a series of case studies reviewing the management or establishment of specific MPAs and networks in the EU and US. The draft agenda for this meeting is now available online; the EU and US case studies to be discussed at the meeting will be available online shortly.

The aim of this transatlantic debate is to improve understanding of the reasons for the success or failure in the designation and management of MPAs in the EU and US, how they compare and contrast, and where there is potential for learning from each other.
