Hearing on the Future of the EU Emissions Trading System

The Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) organised a hearing on behalf of the European Parliament on ‘The Future of the EU ETS’ on 15 May 2008.

The official hearing on the Commission’s post-2012 proposal was held in the European Parliament’s hemicycle in Brussels and was chaired by Avril Doyle, MEP. Following a keynote address by the Director-General of DG Environment Mogens Peter Carl and an overview of the Commission’s proposal by Deputy Director General for the Environment Jos Delbeke, the workshop was organised around four thematic sessions: allocation, competitiveness, scope and operation, and the international dimension. Prominent experts spoke in each area, followed by questions and comments by parliamentarians and others in attendance.
