IEEP presentation on insights from international experiences with carbon and energy taxes

The 2013 Green Budget Europe Annual Conference, jointly organised with Öbu – Swiss Network for Sustainable Business and ZHAW – Centre for Economic Policies took place from 24-25 October 2013 in Winterthur, Switzerland. Sirini Withana, Senior Policy Analyst in IEEP’s Environmental Governance Programme gave a presentation at the conference on ‘Some insights from international experiences with carbon and energy taxes’. Her presentation builds on a study carried out by IEEP for the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Federal Finance Administration (FFA) of Switzerland on ‘Evaluation of environmental tax reforms: International experiences’.

The conference brought together policy makers, business, scientists, academics and civil society to discuss efforts in Switzerland to implement environmental taxation and to explore how existing barriers to the effective functioning of the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) can be overcome.
