Briefing on the proposal on the Conservation and Sustainable Exploitation of Fisheries Resources.

The most significant and probably controversial of the Commission’s Common Fisheries Policy reform proposals is the proposed regulation on the conservation and sustainable exploitation of fisheries resources. The proposal would replace the existing framework Regulation 3760/92 upon which the overall 2002 review is centred. The new regulation would place management on a more long-term basis, incorporate environmental concerns into fisheries management, and generally move towards an eco-system-based approach to fisheries management.
