The Thematic Strategy on Air Pollution

This briefing concludes that, in spite of all the modelling that has been undertaken to support the development of the Thematic Strategy on Air Pollution, the rationale behind the chosen strategy, as well as the link between the strategy and the proposed measures, is not clear. It welcomes the consolidation of the legislation, but notes that the proposal could be seen to weaken existing legislation, as Member States are to be allowed to request more time to meet certain limit values. The briefing is one in a series of eight briefings produced for the European Parliament under a Framework contract led by IEEP.
