The problem of biodiversity loss in the EU - Evaluation of the EU Efforts Toward the Achievement of the Objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, 2010 and Beyond
The Commission Communication ‘Halting the Loss of Biodiversity by 2010 and Beyond’ (COM/2006/216) was adopted in May 2006. This Communication and an accompanied biodiversity Action Plan for 2010 and beyond form the current basis for EU’s biodiversity policy. The publication by Abu Amara and Kettunen provides an assessment of EU’s efforts on trying to halt the loss of biodiversity by 2010. In particular, it analyses the potential of the Commission’s new biodiversity Communication and Action Plan in stepping up EU’s efforts to reach the 2010 biodiversity goal. The publication is briefing for the European Parliament’s Environment Committee.
