Railways and the Environment: Towards a Strategy for 2005 and Beyond

In 2005 IEEP completed a review for the Strategic Rail Authority on environmental policy developments in relation to railways. This report takes environmental issues, rather than legislative pressures, as its starting point. The environmental issues under scrutiny are: emissions of regulated pollutants; emissions of climate impacting gases; noise and vibration; waste and resource use; habitats and biodiversity; hazardous substances; water pollution; light pollution; and electromagnetic pollution.
