The EU’s Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) is a vital strategic document in terms of taking the environment agenda forward in Europe and offers a counter to the Lisbon competitiveness agenda. However, despite its importance to the environmental community its profile has been relatively low politically. With the review of the SDS currently ongoing , IEEP has written an own initiative, independent paper entitled ‘Revisiting the EU SDS - Creating the Conditions for Sustainability’. This paper looks at the issues surrounding the current review of the SDS and what a future SDS might look like.
