The illegal export of waste from the EU causes serious environmental and health impacts in developing countries. The EU waste shipment Regulation aims to prevent this, but its enforcement in Member States is often poor. IEEP undertook a study examining criteria to improve inspection and enforcement and the European Commission has now issued a consultation, drawing on this work, on whether EU law should be changed.
