MEPs Involved

IEEP has been working with a cross party grouping of MEPs, and former MEPs, who have a strong reputation on climate and energy issues. All have displayed leadership in the past on this issue, either within the European Parliament or beyond, demonstrating that combating climate change is vital no matter what an individual’s political background or interests.

We would like to thank the following individuals for their support and engagement.

  • Inés Ayala Sender

    Born on 27 March 1957, Inés Ayala Sender is a Spanish MEP with the Socialist and Democrats Group in the Parliament. Before being elected as an MEP in 1999, Inés was a policy adviser in the Parliament. She has also worked as a national expert in the Directorate-General for the Environment of the European Commission. During the last parliamentary mandate, Inés was a substitute member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a member of the temporary Committee on Climate Change. She was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

     

  • Dorette Corbey

    Born on 19 July 1957, Dorette Corbey was a Dutch Member of the European Parliament as part of the Dutch Labour Party and the Parliament's PSE Group from 1999-2009. During the last parliamentary mandate Dorette was a member of the Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. Dorette is now president of a Dutch commission on sustainable biomass and director of a Dutch council on science and energy.

  • Chris Davies

    Born on 7 July 1954, Chris Davies has been a Member of the European Parliament with the UK Liberal Democrat Party and the Parliament's ALDE Group since 1999. From June 2004-May 2006, he led the UK Liberal Democrat Delegation in the Parliament. A member of the Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a substitute on the Committee on Fisheries, Chris was a key contributor to negotiations on the Climate Change Package as the Parliament's rapporteur on the Carbon Capture and Storage Directive. He was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Avril Doyle

    Born on 18 April 1949, Avril Doyle has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1999 as part of the Irish Fine Gael Delegation and during the last parliamentary mandate, she was leader of the Irish Delegation to the EPP-ED group. She was an active member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety as the Parliament's rapporteur on the revision of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme in 2008. She was also a member of the Industry, Energy and Research Committee and the temporary Committee on Climate Change, as well as Vice-Chairperson of the Committee on Fisheries. Avril retired as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Karl-Heinz Florenz

    Born on 22 October 1947 Karl-Heinz Florenz is a member of the German Democrat Party and a Member of the European Parliament with the EPP Group. During the last parliamentary mandate, he was a member of the Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and it's Chairman from 2004-2007. Karl- Heinz was an influential voice in the Parliament's negotiations on the Climate Change Package as the Temporary Committee on Climate Change's rapporteur on the Future Climate Change Strategy of the EU in 2008. He was also a delegate to the COP14 conference in Poznan in December 2008. He was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy

    Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy is a member of the Dutch Green Party and was elected as a Member of the European Parliament for the first time in June 2009. Prior to his election to the Parliament, Gerben-Jan was a senior political adviser at the Dutch Ministry for the Environment.

  • Fiona Hall

    Born on 15 July 1955, Fiona Hall is a British Liberal Democrat MEP and member of the Parliament's ALDE Group. An MEP since 2004, Fiona is a member of the Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, the Delegation for relations with the Pan-African Parliament and the Delgation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. She is a substitute member of the Committee on Development and the Delegation for relations with the Korean Peninsula.

  • Satu Hassi

    Born on 3 June 1951, Satu Hassi is a member of the Finnish Green Party and was the sole Finnish Green representative when she was elected to the European Parliament in 2004. Prior to her election to the Parliament, Satu was a member of the Finnish national parliament from 1991-2004 where she was a Minister for the Environment and Development Co-operation. She served as Chairman of the Finnish Green Party from 1997-2001. Vice-Chairman of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety during the last parliamentary mandate, Satu was also the Parliament's rapporteur on the effort sharing decisions as part of the climate change package in 2008. She was a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, a member of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change and a delegate to the COP14 negotiations in Poznan in December 2008. She was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Jean Lambert

    Born on 1 June 1950, Jean Lambert is a British Green Party MEP and member of the Parliament's Green Group. She has been an MEP since 1991. Jean is a member of the Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, the Delegation for relations with the Countries of South Asia and a substitute member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Delegation for relations with India.

  • Jo Leinen

    Born 6 April 1948, Jo Leinen is a member of the German Socialist Party and has been a Member of European Parliament with the PSE Group since 1999. Jo was actively involved in the German anti-nuclear movement in the 1980s and was Minister for the Environment in the state of Saarland, Germany, from 1985-1994. In 1985 he was awarded the German Environment Foundation Prize. During the last parliamentary mandate, Jo was Chairman of the Parliament's Committee on Constitutional Affairs. He was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Peter Liese

    Born on 20 May 1965, Peter Liese is a German Member of the European Parliament with the EPP Group. Peter practised as a medical doctor before he was elected as an MEP in 1994. During the last parliamentary mandate, Peter was a member of the Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety where he was rapporteur on a report considering the inclusion of aviation in the revised EU Emissions Trading Scheme. He was also a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and a member of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change. Peter was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.

  • Caroline Lucas

    Born on 9 December 1960, Caroline Lucas is a member of the UK Green Party and has been a Member of the European Parliament with the Green Group since 1999. Before entering the Parliament, Caroline worked as a research and policy analysis on trade, development, and environment issues for a major UK development agency. During the last parliamentary mandate, Caroline was a member of the Parliament's committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and the Temporary Committee on Climate Change. She was re-elected as an MEP in June 2009.
